Read a rhythm
One more look at what you missed.
You know three signs so far.
A filled oval lasts one beat and a hollow oval two. A squiggle is one beat of silence.
One beat, two beats, and silence.
Here are quarter notes and half notes. A rest is a beat like these with no sound in it.
No sound? Check your volume, and that your phone is not on silent.
Which sign lasts two beats?
Reading means knowing the rhythm before you hear it.
Look at the signs during the count-in, and plan where your taps will fall.
Say the rhythm in numbers before you start.
For filled, filled, hollow, say one, two, three-four. You tap on one, two and three.
Read the four beats during the count-in, then tap where each note starts.
Hollow oval, squiggle, filled oval: plan the taps.
The hollow oval takes beats one and two, and the squiggle is three. So you tap on one and on four.
Filled oval, squiggle, hollow oval. Which beats get a tap?
Same signs, a little faster.
Reading does not change with the tempo. One beat is still one beat.
Read during the count-in, as before. Only the tempo has changed.
You can read a rhythm.
